Obama Misses the Mark on McCain’s Health Care Plan

With all the negative campaigning we’ve endured so far, it’s disappointing to see Sen. Barack Obama badly misrepresent Sen. John McCain’s health care plan, which is so confusing on its face that it almost provides its own refutation.  Obama claims that McCain plans to cut the Medicare benefits of thousands of elderly Americans.  McCain has no such plan.  Instead, McCain wishes to cut Medicare operating costs so that it can provide the same benefits it provides now at lower overall cost.  Several fact-checking groups have gone over this point and exploded Obama’s claim, but Obama continues to run with it.  It’s time for Obama to tell the truth about this aspect of McCain’s health care plan, and criticize it on other points.
