Have you seen this photograph?
It’s doing laps around the Internet, snaring many a blogger who assumed it was real, and has even showed up in some newspapers. But’s a fake. Look at the bottom of the image. “TheKoKon.com” is a reference to Kodiak Konfidential, the blog where the image originally appeared. Follows these two links for more information:

I remember telling my thesis advisor at Wake Forest years ago that because of Photoshop, photographs would soon cease to be the kind of incontrovertible record we were accustomed to. This is a good example, although I’m disappointed anyone would be taken in by this picture. Aside from the big fat “TheKoKon.com” sitting at the bottom of the image, isn’t it obvious that Palin’s head doesn’t fit the model’s body?
And seriously, since when can the governor of any state appear in her slip on the cover of a magazine and not cause a major media sensation before she’s selected as the Republican VP?
Palin did pose for Vogue. Here is one of the authentic Vogue pictures:

You’re very right about photographs not being able to be taken verbatim any longer. There are FAR better “faikers” (as they are called in the community) than me.
The real problem with my fake Sarah Vogue cover is her face looks like a mask on the donor body/Vogue cover.
I’ve narrowed that down to two problems: the original Sarah portrait is ever so slightly foreshortened – that is I don’t think the photographer used a portrait-length lens. And, with hair blowing back like that, you should be able to see ears. And the headshot lighting isn’t as flat as the body. It is very obviously a fake, especially if you know what to look for. I think I got the skin tone pretty close, though.
Oh well, I had a pretty small audience of mostly locals when I created it, and didn’t expect such wide distribution. I’ll try harder next time.
Cheers,
Ish

I photoshopped her on a MAXIM cover the other day as a joke, not knowing about the Vogue cover, and I’m getting ridiculous hits from the tags “Sarah Palin photos” and “Sarah Palin pictures” because of it. I used the same source image that this Vogue cover did. It’s not perfect but it’s in a little better shape than the Vogue cover.

is my Photoshop cover.

is an example of the source image I used and I immediately recognized it on this Vogue cover.
Well, of course thats fake… if these pictures were taken in December of last year… she would have been pregnant with Trig. How many pregnant women you know pose on the cover of vogue in a nighty?
Wow…you really don’t want to see photos of British Politicians…
It is amazing how people can not see the humor of something and are dumb enough to think the Maxim, Vogue and kitchen photo with the leather skirt are real.
These a fake joke covers…wake up people.
How could anyone mistake that cover for a real photo? Her head is square!
Why are people making fake photos? Any theories? As others commenting have noted the “Vogue” cover is exceptionally fake looking to anyone with a modicum of experience in art or photography. I have a hard time believing anyone is fooled — though, who knows ….
Anyway, there is the real magazine for comparison! A simple trip to the library ….
Motive? Political humor? Sarcasm? What gives?
Good post. Thanks.
It’s a lie, in any meaningful sense. It’s akin to ‘quoting’ others by putting words in their mouths. And what’s my proof? The serious and determined attempts to present a fraud as reality: a real and reputable magazine, a legitimate partial photo of the subject, and the author’s own remarks indicating his intent to pass this off as legitimate. Why? To smear and besmirch the character of the person presented. This is no longer political expression, because political expression must require the ability to discern the idea behind said ‘expression’. This, rather, seeks to become truth by deception.
palin is a fox…actually maybe more like a wolf seeing that she is from alaska, but a milf anyway you look at it.
it’s soooooo obviously fake.
the instant i saw it, over a year ago now, i recognized the similarity to her official portrait. it’s simply the face from her Official Portrait dropped onto an image of a model.
……seriously, anyone who doesn’t recognize this as a doctored image needs a big cup of coffee.
